An early postcard of Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse.Whether you are a lighthouse lover who lives in Maine, or you’re planning a vacation to Maine, no visit is complete without Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse. We are the only caisson-style lighthouse in the United States that is accessible by land and one of the few lighthouses in Maine that is open to the public for tours during summer weekends.

Come join us and enjoy a magnificent view of Portland harbor from the top and see the constant parade of cruise ships, oil tankers and cargo vessels, tug boats, pleasure and lobster boats, as well as historic forts and other nearby lighthouses. The lighthouse is located at the end of a 950-foot long granite breakwater that juts into the harbor from the shoreline of Fort Preble on the campus of Southern Maine Community College. When the lighthouse is not open, visitors are free to walk out on the breakwater and completely around the lighthouse.

The schooner Windameen passes near the lighthouse.

Check out our events page for a complete list of openings, ticket information, and entry requirements (yes, there are a few). Our ticket booth staff and our volunteer tour guides will discuss the history of the lighthouse and point out the surrounding features of the harbor.

The Cruise Ship Norwegian Dawn passes the lighthouse outbound from Portland.
